Even before the pandemic, several dramatic transformations were reshaping the workplace. Thirty years ago, had office planners really thought about sustainability, or employee-wellness? Yoga, anyone?
The New York Times is out with a piece that might identify another coming trend for employers and employees: spirituality.
It’s not about religion, per se.
“Employers are finding their workers atomized and agitated, and are looking for guidance to bring them back together. Now the sacred consultants are helping to usher in new rituals for shapeless workdays, and trying to give employees routines that are imbued with meaning,” according to the article.
Companies hiring ritual consultants may think they are bringing workers a small perk. Those behind the movement are hoping for a bigger revolution.
But as the article points out, it’s still an office and many workers will want to pursue their spiritual side on their own time.
