CoreNet Global welcomed more than 2,700 corporate real estate professionals — a pre-pandemic sized audience — to Chicago this week for its Global Summit.
The summit got underway with motivating messages from Shawn Achor, the best-selling author of The Happiness Advantage and Big Potential. Shawn has become one of the world’s leading experts on the connection between happiness and success.
Achor showed the attendees how happiness, or lack thereof, is a result of how we see the world, and if we only see negative images from the news, or other stimuli, the degree to which we are happy will be affected.
“Your conscious behavioral shifts break the tyranny of what happens to you next and what happens to everyone,” he said.
And he twisted the paradigm that success breeds happiness to happiness breads success.
“The greatest positive advantage in the modern economy is a positive brain,” he said, “Every time your brain has a success, your brain changes the goal posts for what success is. Success doesn’t guarantee happiness. When the human brain is positive, outcomes are more positive.
And, he focused on the need to work with others to create the happiness advantage within ourselves.
That was a perfect kickoff to nearly 3,000 corporate real estate professionals networking, learning, sharing and understanding the changes that have been forced on the profession by the pandemic, the global economy the ever-changing nature of work.
