How do you open up a corporate campus?  With a ton of glass, a number of portals and a whole lot of attitude, according to a recent column in Forbes.

According to the article, “architects have begun designing a new breed of corporate campus, featuring buildings that by design open their doors to engage the cities around them. They’re creating a greater sense of community between the city and the corporation, spurring nearby economic development and boosting employee retention and pride.”

“In creating the new Northwestern Mutual Tower and Commons, Pickard Chilton complemented the eye-catching 32-story glass-and-steel Tower with the Commons, a neatly-organized campus that features training and meeting facilities, dining areas and terraces looking out on landscaped gardens.”

The article also cited a new $750 million headquarters, the Devon Energy Center, which sparked an additional $2.5 billion of development in Oklahoma City.
