The latest CoreNet Global tracking survey of corporate real estate professionals finds that less than nine percent of respondents expect that their organizations plan to require employees to be vaccinated before they can return to work.
Among the other findings:
Decreased Corporate Footprint: 35.71 percent of the respondents project that their company’s overall real estate footprint will shrink by between 10 and 30 percent over the next two years. 11.69 percent project a reduction in the corporate footprint of 10 percent or less. 11.69 percent reporter a reduction of more than 30 percent. 20.13 percent reported that there would be no change. 7.14 percent reported a projected increase of less than 10 percent, 9.74 percent reported an increase of 10-30 percent and 3.9 percent reported an increase of more than 30 percent.
· Return of Employee Travel: Regarding employee travel, 23 percent reported that their companies would allow employees to travel within their borders within three months, 29 percent within three to six months and 48 percent after six months. For international travel, 8 percent said that employees would be allowed to travel within three months, 17 percent said within 3-6 months and 76 percent said after six months from now.
· Crisis Readiness: Fifty-three percent reported that crisis readiness on the part of cities and localities will become more of a factor in their company’s site-selection plans.
· Co-Working: 53.13 percent of respondents say that their use of co-working will remain at the same level, following the pandemic; 30 percent said that it would increase, and 16.88 percent projected a decrease
· 9 to 5: Sixty-nine percent say that the 9-5 work pattern is a thing of the past.
· Fully remote employees: Fifty-seven percent report that their companies would consider hiring employees regardless of location, with 100 percent remote work.
· Return to Work: Fifty-eight percent report that it will still be after June 2021 until at least half of the workers that have been displaced due to the pandemic will return to the workplace.
· The Role of the Office: Eighty-eight percent report that the role of the office moving forward will be for teamwork and collaboration as opposed to individual work.
· Allocation of the Work Week: Following the pandemic, respondents report the following percentages of the typical work week spent in various locations: 46 percent in a traditional office; 43 percent home-based or other remote location; 11 percent in a co-working environment. These estimates are relatively unchanged from the November survey.
· Corporate Satellite Locations: Sixteen percent of the respondents reported that they would be opening satellite locations closer to where employees live.
· Re-shoring: Fifty-three percent projected an increase in re-shoring, and of those, 81 percent projected that it would occur in North America.In January, CoreNet Global conducted a survey of its worldwide membership to gain insight on how the ongoing COVID-19 crisis is impacting corporate real estate management.
